World Fair Trade Day is a global celebration on May 12th. The purpose is to showcase small-scale producers at the heart of the fair trade movement and the contributions they make to healthy and sustainable communities around the world. When you choose authentic fair trade goods, your purchase casts a vote for small-scale farmers, producers, and artisans around the world.
Thumbprint Artifacts is excited to celebrate the occasion at Thumbprint Gallery as it opens its doors in Eastern Market, Saturday, May 12th, 2018! Here customers will find our unique, high quality & fairly traded home decor items created by the artisan we support in South Africa. Each item in the store is handcrafted and each product has a story of the artisans.
Located in downtown Detroit's buzzing venue of Eastern Market, Thumbprint Gallery will provide Detroit with not only a venue for fair trade gift items, but also one of the only gift stores of its kind.
In honor of World Fair Trade Day, the Gallery is kicking-off their opening by donating 5% of their sales on opening day to fair trade women’s businesses in South Africa. 90% of our artisans are women, primarily single mothers that often support an extended family. One candle can require the skills of up to 12 artisans – so imagine the impact that each purchase makes in providing a sustainable income for these women while positively impacting entire families and communities in South Africa.
If you are in the Detroit area, please stop by on Saturday, 12 May and join us in celebrating World Fair Trade Day and the "Grand Opening" of Thumbprint Gallery.
